Berries and Cream – Madness Made Marketable

Nobody ever knows that something is “ahead of its time” until time catches up to it. For example, a 2007 Starburst commercial about a Little Lad doing a bizarre dance about Berries and Cream seemed out of place. It found minor success with the classic 2007 YouTube remixes, but it faded quickly from the public eye. That is, until 2021 when that lad and his dance found their way onto Tiktok. Suddenly that crazy dance and song became the newest flash in the pan, reaching fame and glory a whole 14 years past its inception.

Why did people gravitate towards such an unusual subject? The answer may lie in the fact that TikTok and other social platforms are perfect echo chambers for humanity’s fascination with the uncanny and bizarre. Maybe the Little Lad Who Loves Berries and Cream is a manifestation of that morbid interest in the unusual. Either that or he just REALLY likes Berries and Cream.
