James Bond Drives Into the Future with Aston Martin Rapid E

James Bond, or 007, is known for his countless gadgets: an exploding pen, dagger shoes, a gun designed specifically for his grip. The list is long and, in the upcoming film, Q will give Bond his most revolutionary gadget yet… Bond is going green.

Bond 25 is set to start shooting this April with an anticipated April 2020 release date. As with all Bond films, it will feature a Bond Girl, a villain bent on world destruction and an Aston Martin. However, one of these will be decidedly different. In Bond 25, Bond goes environmental courtesy of Aston Martin. Aston Martin’s relationship with Bond began in 1964, when Sean Connery drove an Aston Martin DB5 in Goldfinger. In the upcoming film, Bond will be behind the wheel of an Aston Martin again—but an eco-friendly electric Aston Martin Rapide E.

The film’s director, Cary Joji Fukunaga, a “tree hugger” per reports, “is working directly with Aston Martin to get one of their electric cars ready for its big close-up,” said The Sun “It’s going to be the centre of an incredible action sequence in the movie… [with] all the high-tech gadgets.” The car and its zero emissions motor is available for consumers, but in limited edition with only 155 models being made. Costs estimate to be £250,000 (approx. $330,723).

Bond changing with the times has fans fearing that Ian Fleming’s hero is becoming too politically correct. However, if you really think about it, Bond is doing a very Bond thing: He’s saving the world, one car chase at a time.
