ViacomCBS and The Ad Council Develop PSA for Social Distancing

Public Service Announcements have historically been a way to communicate with the public and help raise awareness about important and (usually) timely issues. Since 1942, The Advertising Council has been creating and disseminating powerful campaigns to help educate the public in the United States. Most recently, the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has caused The Ad Council to partner with media companies like ViacomCBS, to push messages meant to help slow the spread of the virus.

The campaign started with mobile ads that encourage everyone to “stay home” whether they’re showing symptoms or not. Ironically, #AloneTogether is a social media campaign about society’s attempt at social distancing. It’s a simple and positive message that reminds viewers they’re not alone—with a follow up that states “we’ll be here to keep you company.” To accompany people through this extended social distancing effort, the campaign includes an extensive array of digitally interactive rollouts in the coming weeks, such as celebrity posts, live music, TikTok challenges and YouTube livestream events.

There’s no denying that the coronavirus pandemic has created some real life separation anxiety, but it’s important to remember that we’re all in this together—even if we sometimes feel alone.
