YouTube Red Attacks with Cobra Kai
These days, if you want to be a legit player in the streaming content game, you need to make a big splash. Think Netflix with House of Cards. Or Hulu with The Handmaid’s Tale. The latest competitor to step into the content dojo in that regard is YouTube Red. The paid streaming service from YouTube aims to crane kick viewers to attention when it premieres its big-splash original show Cobra Kai on May 2.
Riding the wave of reboot nostalgia that’s brought the return of Twin Peaks, Full House, and the X-Files in recent years, Cobra Kai reignites the rivalry between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence from the 1980s classic The Karate Kid some 30 years after the events of the film. The original actors from The Karate Kid—Ralph Macchio and William Zabka—both reprise their roles for the series, and have been working tirelessly to promote the new show.
The question is: Will Cobra Kai inspire more viewers to push play on YouTube Red? The subscription service is currently offering a one month free trial, after which time the service costs $9.99 per month.
