John Lewis Plays Your Song for the Holidays
We’ve showcased John Lewis holiday ads in the past and, before you immediately jump to conclusions and think we’re biased, its important to note that this wasn’t a planned love affair. The chain of high-end department stores won us over years ago with their Monty the Penguin ad and we found ourselves swooning uncontrollably over their quality advertising with each passing holiday season.
This year is no different. Their most recent effort “The Boy and The Piano” tells the story of iconic singer Elton John’s love for the piano, in a Benjamin Button sort of way. Even though the brand’s iconic ad formula has changed a little from past years, we think it was a necessary adjustment in order to inject some new excitement into the ebb and flow of their now-familiar storytelling technique.
* In all fairness, when we reference brand advertising efforts, we acknowledge and give props to the ad agencies that often conceptualize and execute the initiatives. In this case, that would be adam&eve/DDB.
What do you think? Did John Lewis nail it again?
