Hatchimals Continue to Hatch Innovative Toys Four Years After Launch
Let’s take a look back at 2016, our last leap year. It was a magical time—people were dabbing every two seconds, Angelina and Brad broke up and Leo finally won an oscar. But the most exciting part of 2016 was the election of Hatchimals as the hottest toy. James Martin, the Hatchimals’ creator, Senior Vice President Global Brand Strategy & Global Business Unit Lead Robotics & Boys IP Business Units Spin Master saw potential in the popular unboxing trend on Youtube. Martin decided to turn that concept into a kid-friendly experience, and create a product where people didn’t know exactly what toy they were getting—birthing the Hatchimal.
Hatchimals now have an animated show on Netflix, a large following on Youtube and new toys hitting the shelves regularly. One of their recent releases features a furry creature called a “Llalacorn” (half llama, half unicorn of course) that can grow up to 32” and has over 250 sounds/actions for children to interact with. Angelina and Brad’s marriage may not have worked out, but four years later, Hatchimals are still going strong as one of the most popular toys.
