Coca-Cola Delivers Christmas Miracle from a Big Rig

The song “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” takes on an entirely new meaning when you watch this Coca-Cola holiday ad spot with Santa behind the wheel of a big rig (a.k.a. tractor trailer, eighteen wheeler, semi-truck, etc.). In all seriousness, the 2 1/2 minute spot about a dad who makes his way to the North Pole and back home for holidays is a nice piece of storytelling, both visually and emotionally.

According to Walter Susini, Senior Vice President of Marketing for Coca-Cola Europe, “It’s no secret that 2020 has been a difficult year on so many levels. Christmas is traditionally a time when people spend quality time with loved ones. However, given the year we’ve all had, spending dedicated time and being present in the moment with loved ones will be the priority above all else.”

Even though the concept of Santa delivering a Christmas miracle from the bed of an eighteen wheeler seems a bit out-of-character, it does fit Coca-Cola’s truck decorating tradition, which started all the way back in 1995. Our only question from the effort—does Santa’s brightly lit big rig run on horsepower or reindeer power?
