Streaming Big Budget Movies During the Pandemic
It’s official, Wonder Woman is super. The sequel that launched on HBO Max on December 25th, 2020 was recently crowned the victor for the last week of the year. According to Nielsen, the highly anticipated big budget movie raked in over 2 billion minutes viewed among U.S. streamers. To put that into perspective, 2 billion minutes equates to 4,000 years. That’s a lot of time, no matter how you look at it.
In comparison, the next closest streaming success story during that same week was Soul, released on Disney+. While the argument continues whether streaming theatrical releases simultaneously is a good idea, there’s little doubt that people are looking for a getaway from reality during the pandemic and they don’t care where they get it.
