For Your Eyes Only: Amazon Buys MGM and James Bond
It’s official. Amazon struck a deal to acquire MGM for $8.45 billion. That gives Amazon Prime the rights to some strong franchises, including James Bond, Rocky, The Hobbit, and television hits The Handmaid’s Tale and Fargo. It’s clear that Amazon believes streaming is forever (as opposed to diamonds) and the world is not enough (another James Bond reference…come on people), so it’s putting some real money into owning valuable content with an established fan base.
