A Podcast Evolves into an Amazon Series Starring Julia Roberts
We’ve seen numerous TV shows based on movies, books, comics, and web series emerge over the years. The next wave could be shows based on podcasts. In another sign of just how popular podcasts have become, a recent narrative podcast that aired for two seasons in 2016-2017 has now been adapted into a new Amazon series.
And this isn’t just any series. Homecoming, based on the podcast of the same name, will feature one of the biggest movie stars of the past 25 years—Julia Roberts—taking on her first regular TV series role. The show’s pedigree doesn’t stop there either. It was developed and directed by the mind behind the acclaimed series Mr. Robot, Sam Esmail. Amazon recently released the first trailer for the new series, which will hit Amazon Prime Video on November 2.
The original podcast, produced by Gimlet media and created by Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, was no slouch in the star department itself—featuring the voices of Catherine Keener, Oscar Isaac and David Schwimmer. Could Homecoming lead to a new trend of podcasts being adapted into TV shows? And, if so, who will play the hosts of our flagship podcast in the TV adaptation of Speaking Human?
