Miss Sweethearts This Valentine’s Day? How About Krispy Kreme!

Earlier this month, America’s consciousness was rocked when it was announced the adorable Sweethearts candy would not be made this Valentine’s due to Necco’s bankruptcy. Spangler Co., which bought the brand, promised they’ll return next year, but how do we show our loved ones we care in the meantime? Calories, courtesy of Krispy Kreme doughnuts!

The doughnut chain is saving Valentine’s Day for fans of Sweethearts. Starting January 30, the chain launched limited-time Valentine Conversation Doughnuts to make up for the candy’s disappearance. Like the candy, the doughnuts are topped with romantic phrases—from “Crazy 4U!” to “Say Yes.” They’re also pumped full of classic Krispy Kreme fillings: Cake Batter, Strawberries & Kreme, Raspberry, and Chocolate Kreme.

“Finding the right word can be… hard,” said Krispy Kreme Chief Marketing Officer Dave Skena in a statement. “But, eating a doughnut is easy. So, we printed the right words… for you, so you can’t mess things up.” The conversation line is available across U.S. Krispy Kreme establishments through February 14.

If the doughnuts just won’t do it for you, Sweethearts can be found online—but they’re not cheap. Amazon advertises a 16-ounce bag for $14 with other retail sites being even pricier. So why not spice things up this year and get a crayon-frosted, Strawberries & Kreme filled doughnut. It literally says, “Pick Me!”
