Bud Light Brews Beer for Martians!
In June, the people behind “S***posting cause im in shambles” meme buddied with Twitch streamer SmyleeKun to organize “Storm Area 51, They Can’t Stop All of Us”. According to the Facebook post, people are to meet at the Area 51 Alien Center to coordinate the march, which is slated to happen at 3 a.m. PST on September 20.
The goal is to break into Area 51, where conspiracy theorists believe the US government has alien stuff. The thought is if a bunch of people rush the HIGHLY SECURED base at once, the military doesn’t stand a chance of stopping them.
Yeah … it’s not a full proof plan or a good idea, but it does provide fodder for advertising and that’s all that matters!
Case in point: Bud Light. The company has been trying to tap into the millennial market (“Real Men of Genius” becoming “Internet Heroes of Genius”) for some time and saw this recent viral joke as the perfect opportunity. The company promised to debut Area 51-themed limited edition labels if their tweet was retweeted 51,000 times. Furthermore, it offered free beer to aliens that escaped Area 51 during the event!
All jokes aside, Bud Light stated it does not support the raid. Still, 51K retweets is not much, so the labels are happening come September. However, there is risk. The U.S. Air Force has warned against such a march. If a “storm” were to occur, Bud Light’s gag could backfire badly.
