Wes Anderson’s H&M Ad moves to the Beat of its own Drum
In 2016, Swedish retail company H&M and Wes Anderson teamed up for Come Together, a branded short about people stuck on a train for the holidays due to inclement weather. Featuring Oscar WinnerAdrien Brody, the ad had everything people love about Wes Anderson films – the deadpan, dry humorous writing, the eccentricities and the refined, symmetrical sets with beautiful colors and production design – all wrapped in holiday tropes with a fuzzy ending. Yet, the real star was Harry Simeone Chorale’s “Little Drummer Boy.” It paced the ad beautifully as the unofficial score. The perfect soundtrack for Anderson’s succinct, framed, storyboard-like editing plays to the beat of its own drum and the director found the perfect fit for it in this holiday ad.
