Corona’s Christmas on a Beach
The iconic 1990 Corona Extra commercial is considered a classic in the advertising industry. It stars a small beach house, nestled softly between some silhouetted palm trees. After ten hushed seconds, a whistling rendition of “O Tannenbaum,” breaks out and a nearby palm tree lights up as the lone holiday beacon. Since it debuted in 1990, the simple ad became a holiday staple for the Corona brand. It’s the second longest running holiday ad behind Hershey Kisses’ Bells. According to Jim Sabia, the chief marketing officer of Constellation Brands’ beer division – “We have something that’s a masterpiece, [so] why mess with it?” We agree, and that’s why it made our list of “Best use of a Christmas song in an ad” this holiday season.
