WEEKLY BUZZ FOR YOUR BRAIN

The Cheetos Hands-Free Extravaganza

Every Cheetos fan has had the same problem at least once in their lives. You’re sitting on the couch, enjoying some cheesy crunch while watching TV. Then your show ends, and you need to change the channel. You reach forward, but your hand stops just before it touches the remote. Your fingers are covered in Cheeto dust (affectionately titled “Cheetle”). Do you smudge your remote with orange dust or let it run into the next show?

Cheetos is very aware of the iconic dust that coats your fingers after eating, and they propose that this dust is the reason behind societal advancement. In their ad “Hands Free TVC” we find that all sorts of new technologies came about from the need to eat Cheetos. The man who invented the robot vacuum simply wanted to enjoy his favorite snack while getting some cleaning done. Automatic doors? Cheetos. Self-driving cars? Cheetos. Every modern technology exists because of the need for that delicious crunch.

Cheetos utilization of what may be considered an inconvenience of their product to market it is incredibly clever. This ad takes a humorous tone to poke fun at the danger of smudging “Cheetle” on various household items, and it works wonderfully. Further capitalizing on this concept, Cheetos is hosting a pop-up shop called the “Hands-Free House”, filled with devices that can be used without touch. Guests can come in and have a blast while enjoying their Cheetos, dust and all. Now, Cheetos fans, go on and push the world into a hands-free future.
