Django Unchained: A Violent Christmas Movie for the Whole Family
In 2012, Sony Pictures tried marketing Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained as a violent, vengeance-filled Christmas movie. Tarantino films usually guarantee copious amounts of dialogue and violence, which some would argue is not the easiest material to promote during the Christmas season. The movie’s trailer used “This Christmas: Life, Liberty And The Pursuit Of Vengeance.” as it’s primary message. While the film was not without controversy, it did rake in $425.4 million at the box office with $15 million on Christmas Day alone. That made the movie the third-largest opening day film released on the holiday and helped solidify Django Unchained as Tarantino’s highest grossing film to-date.
