Dunkin’ and Saucony Serve Up Donut Running Shoes
On the scale of unlikely brand pairings, this one ranks pretty high. On one side, you have Dunkin’ Donuts—maker of one of the most delicious but least healthy foods on the planet. On the other side, you have Saucony—maker of high-performance gear for runners. While these brands would appear to be working to achieve opposite goals, that hasn’t stopped them from teaming up to create the limited-edition Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9—running shoes with a donut-inspired design.
Surprisingly, the shoes aren’t quite as ridiculous as the description would suggest. They have a frosted strawberry donut on the heel along with some colorful cascading sprinkles and they also include the Dunkin’ Donuts logo and famous tagline. For Saucony’s part, the Kinvara 9 are ranked among the best running shoes out there by Runner’s World. But perhaps the best part is the box the shoes come in, which resembles an original Dunkin’ donut box (a nice touch).
While these two brands initially may seem to have little in common, there is actually a shared connection: Boston. Dunkin’ and Saucony are noted as “iconic Boston brands” and the shoes are being released in time for the 122nd Boston Marathon, which will be held on April 16. Unlike some other recent novelty footwear created primarily for marketing purposes, the Saucony X Dunkin’ Kinvara 9 will be readily available to all consumers who can’t wait to tell their friends they’re literally running on Dunkin’.
