Mike Tyson Takes a Bite Out of the Cannabis Competition
Many people prefer to cover up their mistakes and leave them in the past. Not Mike Tyson. In 1997 the Heavyweight Champ infamously bit off a piece of his opponent’s ear during a boxing match. Twenty five years later the same man has released his own line of marijuana edibles that are shaped like… you guessed it, ears. These gummies go by the moniker of “Mike Bites”, and very intentionally call back to the shocking incident by having the ear-shaped gummies all missing a bite-sized piece. It is one of many cannabis-themed snacks that have emerged over the last few years.
This product launch is fascinating in how it re-tools what would normally be viewed as a blotch on a celebrity’s career. The 25-year gap helps ease the painful memory, as time heals all wounds (ears included). Present day—the ear gag reflects self-awareness and a sense of humor from the older Mike Tyson and capitalizes on one of his most notorious moments. Now it falls to Mike Tyson fans everywhere; who is willing to chew on some ears?
