Return of the Jedi-Themed Soda Cans!
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away there were Star Wars-themed Pepsi cans. Now, in anticipation of Disneyland’s theme park, Star Wars: Galaxy Edge, themed soda cans return like Jedi—just not on Pepsi products.
On May 31, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will open at Disneyland. On August 29, it will open at Disney World. Galaxy’s Edge is advertised as an immersive experience into the Star Wars mythos, much like Universal’s Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Clearly, Disney is trying to one up Universal. How will they? Provide something Wizarding World doesn’t. Coke (the drink)!
Wizarding World does not offer Coke. How would it fit in the world of Harry Potter? It would take the visitor out of the experience. It’s a riddle Galaxy’s Edge wanted to solve. The answer: put Coke in Star Wars-themed bottles. Coca-Cola and its products (Sprite, Dasani) will be sold in bottles with the product’s color design and the logo in the Star Wars language of Aurebesh.
The bottles scream Star Wars, looking like thermal detonators. It’s a perfect balance between the two brands. They are clearly Coke products. However, they don’t stand out, meaning they shouldn’t get in the way of a Star Wars fantasy.
Not only is Disney dominating the movie market, it is also re-taking the theme park by the way of grenades filled with refreshing (really?) sugary, carbonated goodness.
