Target’s Mid-2000’s Ad is Holiday Gold
The holidays bring warm and fuzzy ads that gnaw at nerves already frayed with festive sappiness, but a few go for a laugh and Target’s immortal mid-Aught masterpiece brings the holiday cheer! I wish I could write about the inspiration behind the ad, but alas, all that can be found is what counts – the ad itself, which features a lonely, silent nighttime parking lot, and as the camera tracks the parked cars, ‘ole St. Nick barrels into view with “Carol of the Bells,” the camera panning to catch him running to Target for a last minute item! I remember seeing it on TV years ago and forgiving Target’s self-congratulatory ‘we save Christmas’ plug because of the ad’s absolute originality and comedy. People have films to get them in the holiday spirit, but me? I find this ad and press repeat.
