Wild One Howls About Ethically-Sourced Dog Treats

Today’s consumers are concerned about the food they buy. Where was it produced? Where was it processed? Human brands realized this and have advertised their products to reflect those concerns. Now pet brands are catching on too—with Wild One marketing “single-ingredient, ethically-sourced dog treats.”

Wild One is a pet accessory start-up founded in 2018. Recently, the company started selling its first edible products for pups. “We looked at what was available on the market and found that many treats didn’t communicate sourcing info, the ingredients were confusing, and the recipes included fillers or stabilizers,” Wild One co-founder Minali Chatani told Fortune. “We created treats that are not only good enough for humans to eat, but we feel proud feeding to our dogs.”

The “sustainable” treats debuted with three flavors:

  • Fish Puffs (from Fin Gourmet in Western Kentucky)
  • Chicken Tenders (via cage-free chicken from Springer Mountain Farms in Georgia)
  • Sweet Potato (from Nature’s Way Farms in North Carolina)

All of the treats are sourced from farms that work in an environment free of steroids, GMOs, antibiotics and the like. According to Fortune, the company says the treats also have been “tested by a community of tough dog critics.”

Prices range from $18 to $22, varying on the treat selected and bag size, but there is a subscription perk. Customers can receive a bag of selected treats every two, four or eight weeks with a 10% discount on each repeat order. As of now, the treats are only available via Wild One’s website; however, there is talk the company is meeting with wholesale partners.
