The Ultimate Mtn Dew Commercial

The Ultimate Mtn Dew Commercial

Have you ever thought that product placement can get a little excessive? Mtn Dew hasn’t. If anything they should be thinking even BIGGER. More sponsored outfits, more logos, and more Puppy Monkey Baby!

Mtn Dew’s new campaign is all about poking fun at advertising tropes with the help of the wild-card comedian Charlie Day. The first ad in this campaign shows Day squaring off with NBA star Zach Lavine as their world devolves into Mtn Dew madness. What starts with a silly green suit progresses further and further until the court is decorated with Mtn Dew colors, logos, slogans, and backflipping Mtn Dew bottles. The chaos concludes with confetti cannons and the ever-iconic Puppy Monkey Baby making its first appearance in six years.

Humor is a great way to make an audience connect with an ad and Mtn Dew’s self-deprecating humor goes one step beyond by making themselves part of the joke. It acknowledges a common complaint with advertising and product placement and embellishes it for the sake of comedy. This is only the first stop on Mtn Dew and Charlie Day’s comedy train, so hop aboard for more satirical ads!
