The Supernatural Side of Ghosting your Friends
Hanging out with friends at the pub after work is a time-honored tradition, and one that always seems to be missing at least one person. We all know that hard working friend who needs to stay late at the office and doesn’t have the luxury of going to the bar. According to this ad spot from Heineken, this type of tragedy seems to have an effect on the ethereal plane.
In the spot “The Ghosted Bar”, we see a drink meant for that absent friend slide along the table, moved by the invisible hand of a ‘ghost’ that startles others in the bar. The ad plays up the supernatural aspect, as well as injecting some humor, as it reveals that the motion of the glass is simply reflecting the movements of the absent friend still trapped at the office. It leaves the audience with the message “Don’t ghost your friends”, promoting the strong social aspect of their product. But the real message might be a simple reminder to make time for your social life, because the consequences could extend beyond this mortal realm.
